Get To Know Matt
I'm so glad you've come to my site! God has burdened me with helping others to experience joyful, abundant lives. There was a time when I battled with crippling anxiety, and I understand firsthand the challenges that can arise as a result of mental health. I also know that God does not want for us to live lives in bondage to fear, depression, addictions, or sin. The burdens, trials and challenges we face in life are not ours to bear alone! I will carefully, patiently, and lovingly administer the truths of God's Word and endeavor to provide personal, informed counsel for your life.
I want to help people, and I want to help you!
My Mission
My mission is to help people - hurting people. Struggling people. I believe that with my training in clinical counselling, as well as in Biblical counselling, I am able to offer a informed counsel, understanding psychology and modern scientific discoveries in the light of God's Word. I want you to discover fullness of life that is found in God. I want our song, as was David's, to be, "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him." (Psalms 28:7)
My Training
After battling with anxiety, I was so thankful for Godly counsel that I received, I purposed to do my part to make a difference. I completed training with and am certified with ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counsellors). I am a member of IABC (International Association of Biblical Counsellors). On the clinical counselling side, I'm currently enrolled at Kelowna College of Professional Counselling, and am a student member with Canadian Professional Counsellors Association.
About Matt
I was born and raised in a small town near London, Ontario. I had the privilege of attending church and a Christian school. I am very grateful for many men and women who invested in my life, and helped me to learn and grow, and become the man that I am today. When I was an early teen, my dad became a pastor in Wasaga Beach, ON. While it was a great blessing to be raised in a Christian home, and a Pastor's home, I often observed people coming to my dad regarding their struggles. I have seen a lot of different Christians over the years, battling with addictions, marital problems, adultery, anxiety, depression, and so on. Witnessing these struggles in the lives of many people always spoke to my heart. However, it wasn't until I personally had a deep battle with anxiety that I truly began to feel the call of God to serve people and aid people in their lives.
I am blessed to have married my wonderful, encouraging and Godly wife. We have three beautiful children, who are as healthy and busy as can be. I am truly blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I became a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Barrie in 2018, and I have been a faithful, active member there since that time. I graduated high school at Heritage Christian Academy in 2014, after which I travelled to South Africa and attended a Bible Institute, while working alongside a Canadian missionary. I gained valuable, hands-on multicultural experience during this time, as a 17 year old. When I'm not in the office, I can be typically be found spending time with my wife and kids. I also greatly enjoy running, cycling, playing hockey, and being outdoor!
More recently, as I endeavour to help people, I have completed certification with Association of Certified Biblical Counselling (ACBC). I completed training and certification with the Association of Biblical Counsellors (ABC). These processes have involved hundreds of hours of reading, classes, observation of counselling, exams, and supervised counselling. I am also a member of the International Association of Biblical Counselling (IABC). Currently, I am pursuing a Professional Counsellor's diploma through the Kelowna College of Professional Counselling. I am constantly working to further my knowledge and understanding as a counsellor, in order to better help those that I serve. My goal is to pursue ongoing education, in order to be able to most effectively help those who come into my office.
